X-Men: The Movie

An Imagining

(Credit: Jim Lee)

I know. What the hell is this, right? Well, I woke up today and decided that I want to make a brief general summary of an X-Men story that I've been cooking up for a while. It would begin with a scene where one of our protagonists, Jean Grey a.k.a. Marvel Girl, arrives at the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in Westchester County, New York. This however is not a story of a teenage Grey arriving at the school for the first time. It's just a callback to that; she's an adult now. She goes back to the school to visit her old professor, Charles Francis Xavier a.k.a. Professor X, because why not reunion? Anyway, Grey would meet the other previous students of the school. In order of appearance: Henry "Hank" McCoy a.k.a. Beast who would answer the door for her, Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops who's currently in a heated debate with Warren Kenneth Worthington III a.k.a. Angel, and Robert "Bobby" Drake a.k.a. Iceman who just roll his eyes at them. McCoy would inform them that Grey has arrived, so they better behave themselves.

Classic O5 vibe follows suit, only something happens in between. Professor X gets notified by someone named Fred Duncan, a friend in the FBI who also acts as a liaison between the mutants and the government, that Magneto (yup!) has recently injured a congress member in a toilet! The professor would then tell this to Summers who wants to immediately act on it, but the other mutants want to go shopping! Xavier says it'll be fine, Magneto wouldn't do anything else because he just knows him. They're old friends after all. Thus, Summers would join the group to go to the mall. Cuz, shopping, y'know? Slice of life shenanigans! Everything seems to go swell until it doesn't. The group would get attacked by another group of mutants consisting of a really big guy, a less big guy with the power of being unmoved, a silver haired guy who can run really fast, and a toad. Yup, it's the Brotherhood! Our favorite mutants (the X-Men, not the Brotherhood) are defeated. Grey, being both a telekinetic and telepathic mutant, would do what she does best: ask the Brotherhood what the bloody hell are they doing. Quicksilver would say, honestly babe, Idk, but the boss wanted us to fight you at the mall so we do exactly that. Grey quickly realizes that it's just a diversion. She tells the others that they need to get back to the school asap because the professor may be in danger. They would end the fight by tricking the Brotherhood to make way for their escape back to the school.

Professor X is dead. Or, at least, that's how it appears. As he lies on the ground, we see none other than Magneto being all "hehe I'm sexy as hell!" as he relishes in the destroyed remnants of the school. Behind him, the Scarlet Witch! Xavier then tells Magneto to suck it, but Magneto has other ideas. He suspends Xavier in the air, altering the magnetic field around him so that nobody can touch him. "Do you know that iron is plentiful within the human body?" he would ask, "Well, that way nobody can ever touch you again, old friend. You'll only have me to help you. Hehe." He smirks as he flees. The mutants would then arrive at the ruins. They'd try to fight Magneto and the Scarlet Witch but fail. The witch is all sad because she really doesn't like doing this, but she's got no choice...until she does later! Anyway, the mutants are in shambles. They try to find their ways to reverse engineer whatever just happened to save Xavier's life. Worthington uses his resources (he's wealthy, y'know) and transfers Xavier to a private Worthington facility. Everybody else follows suit.

Meanwhile, in America, at an undisclosed location, the Brotherhood have recuperated and regrouped. Everyone asks Magneto why is he still doing what he does. "Aren't you tired, Magneto? Aren't you old and wrinkly now?" Magneto would flick his wrist and sends Quicksilver to a nearby wall. Meanwhile, Toad hops around cuz he's a toad, and Unus the Untouchable quits the group cuz he knows better than to partake in this nonsense! Grey and the gang on the other hand have managed to get Xavier back to normal. However, he can't walk now. Yes, Xavier would be walking in the movie from the very beginning, but what Magneto just did basically paralyzed his legs which causes him to be, well, paralyzed. He sits in a wheelchair now, and woohoo! Comic book accuracy! Moments later, Magneto seems to have a change of heart. After all, he and Xavier had been the bestest of friends during their youth. Maybe they've even kissed, who knows!

The magnetic mutant assumes that his old friend is probably still at the school, so he sneaks out of their supervillain lair to get to the school. Meanwhile, the FBI with Fred Duncan are at the school by then. They've been investigating the parameters and found plenty of anomalies as the result of magnetic field altered by Magneto. He then arrives at the school and the FBI are scrambling to save their lives. The X-Men would arrive too, only this time they'd be in costumes! No, not their "training uniform" costumes which were really just a set of black and yellow pair of pajamas plus an edgy gimp mask for each member. Instead, they would be wearing their more sophisticated costumes courtesy of Grey. More shenanigans ensued. The X-Men are getting their asses beat left and right. Magneto remains triumphant, and Professor X is sad. That is until the Brotherhood arrives. Oh oh, what's going on you guys? It's so scary in here! Anyway, the Brotherhood of Mutants aren't as evil this time cuz they just want to quit. The witch has managed to talk them through it and they've all agreed that they won't participate in the silly world takeover plan anymore. Magneto is all like, oh hell no. Then, as the audience gasps at Magneto trying to strike at the Brotherhood, something miraculous happens. It seems that the world around them is shifting. The fabric of reality seems to tremble and stretch beyond what's real and turns into a surreal landscape.

Whose doing is it? The Mastermind? No! He isn't even here at all, have you not paid attention?!! It's the Scarlet Witch and her chaos magic! That's right, the witch has been practicing witchcraft in secrecy much to the chagrin of her boss/adoptive dad Magneto. Magneto, being Jewish, is all like what are you thinking girl?!?!! The witch is all like, "Straight, that's what I'm thinking." She casts a spell on him and he's down to his knees. She casts another spell and this time Magneto screams. The nearby pigeons get scared and fly away. Magneto screams again, "Naur!!!!" as a blinding light surrounds his old and wrinkly body, and then...voila! He's now French! No, he isn't. He just turns into an infant. What? Yeah, he's now a baby with platinum curls. Very chic if you ask me. The X-Men are all like, what the hell's going on? The Brotherhood goes, "Everything that should've gone on much earlier." It's all mysterious and shizzle, then Professor X gets all antsy because he can't handle this right now. Agent Duncan of the House of the Feds suggests that the FBI should take baby Neat-o into custody. The X-Men are like, naur you can't do that are you crazy? The Feds still take him anyway.

The movie then ends with the X-Men, being shaken by this particular incident, scrambling to get whatever they can get from the ruins of their old school. Grey would recover her old and dusty teenage diary which she had left a long time ago in her old room within the building. She exhales and says, "Can't believe that it's still intact," as Summers hugs her from behind. She then asks him whether they can get through all of this, he says yes they can. After all, they've survived this experience.

Cast:
Mikey Madison as Jean Grey (dye your hair red, queen!)

Corey Mylchreest as Scott Summers (put on the red shades!)

Lukas Gage as Hank McCoy (honestly, he's got the look, so slay!)

Mason Gooding as Warren Kenneth Worthington III (google 'Mason Gooding blonde' to get it)

Fred Hechinger as Bobby Drake (he's adorable!)

So, there you have it. My X-Men movie. Obviously, it's still in development, but I'm already liking the vibe of it. I'll get to y'all as soon as the story gets fully written. In the meantime, ciao!

Love, Daud.

The Psylocke(s) Problem and How to Solve It

Case Study (Credit: Russell Dauterman)           Greetings, wonderful people. Today, I'm writing you a new entry that will focus on a topic which I'm very interested in. You see, I'm a huge X-Men fan. I love them beyond words. Among the many mutant characters though, Psylocke is far and above everyone else for me. The story of Psylocke is complicated; beginning with a character named Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock, a psychic, she's the twin sister of the then-Captain Britain, Brian Braddock. She joined the X-Men in the mid '80s after her own tenure as Captain Britain had ended horribly wrong (got her eyes taken out by a supervillain!). She had a purple-dyed hair and she was also an ex-spy of S.T.R.I.K.E., basically the British version of S.H.I.E.L.D. Amazing repertoire on this lady. She then got the code name "Psylocke" from Mojo, an X-Men super villain hailed from a place called the Mojoworld, plus a pair of cybernetic eyes after she got abducted by...

"For You Have Become a..." — A Mariah Carey Review Series: Butterfly

Butterfly, 1997           Mariah Carey's sixth studio album titled "Butterfly" arrived 7 years after her debut. For us, it might have been yet another album from her. However, for Carey herself, it was a new beginning.            Butterfly is the first album where Carey's influences accumulated and melted together, resulting in an album that's so diverse. There's something else, though. Carey's own influence, something that could only be formed once you're on your eighth year of making music, is in full bloom here. Be it the lead single and first track, "Honey," or the jam-packed banger "Breakdown" with Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Carey's never seemed so sure of her own musical and physical identity than on this album. The album cover represents the confidence as well; no longer was she hidden behind sepia or grayscale filter, or her photography limits itself to just above her neck. Carey's physical beauty is on display, perfect...
